Harvest 2012 Update

Click to view slideshow. It’s been awhile since my last post,I got wrapped up in prep for harvest and then it was here before I knew it. These last couple of weeks have gone both quicker and slower than I could have imagined. All is in line with harvest, the macro bins are all fermenting along and although they took a good bit of effort to find I couldn’t be happier to have them. 2012, as a vintage is looking to be promising the fruit came in clean and very little sorting was needed. I have to get back to punchdowns, I’ll give you a more detailed update shortly.

Summer Day At Momtazi

Click to view slideshow. I woke up early this morning to make the now familiar trek down 99 to Mcminnnville. The sun brunt off the clouds on my drive down and made for a clear, bright, hot day in the valley. The stinging needle cast a shade of purple on the walk up to the pond with clear dots of blooming mustard across the vista. What was in winter muddy and giving at the shoe is now a dusty overcoat of jory soil. As I walked down I left a trail of dust in the air behind me. Fruit is set on the vine and about the size of the palm of my hand. The berries are tight and vibrant green. With each trip down the realization of Jasper Sisco becomes more set, more defined. The Indiegogo campaign raised over $3600 dollars! Enough to pay for the first ton of fruit. I’d like to say thank you again to all of those who helped during the campaign. It wouldn’t have been such a success without all of you. Cheers!

Last Wednesday In Mcminnville

Click to view slideshow. Riding into Mcminnville last Wednesday in the early morning was a treat; the sun had just come up and the day ahead promised to be a full one. I had headed down to help out Tahmiene Momtazi rack off some white pinot noir and tidy up a bit around the cellar. She surprised me with some lovely first of the season Oregon strawberries for breakfast, they were sweet and fragrant. After finishing the work in the cellar I headed out to catch a few photos of Momtazi Vineyard in the midday spring sun. A lot of work is ahead but it’s days like these at Momtazi that ready me for what is to come. Bud Break at Momtazi Vineyard

Bud break is in full swing at Momtazi vineyard. As I strolled through it looked as though everything was waking up from slumber. Grasses, clover, and flowers all lush and verdant. The first peaks of spring colors coming up in the most unexpected places. The vines are also coming back to life, putting out the hint of leaves. Tiny buds dotted every vine, a fine sight to see. In talking with Moe Momtazi it looks like we are two weeks ahead of last years bud break. Let’s hope Mother Nature stays on course for this vintage.

Visit To Momtazi Vineyard

Click to view slideshow. This week I headed down to Maysara Winery to help out with bottling of the 2010 Cyrus(formerly known as the estate cuvee). While I was down I walked through the vineyard and took a few photos. It was a bit muddy but still beautiful, the first signs of Spring are starting to show through the long cloud of winter. Pruning had just been completed, the air was brisk and the sun was peaking out. There is something that draws me back to this place in the vineyard time and again. The parcel just above the large trout pond in Momtazi vineyard speaks in a language that I understand. This first vintage will be a test of my translation skills.
